Bed wetting is an O.K. book

I found it very fundamental. There was nothing in it that made me feel warm and fuzzy. Perhaps I am expecting that miracle formula, for a very complicated problem. Enuresis is very difficult to work with and can have a variety of causes. I thought the scripts were o.k. and tried a couple without success, however this does not mean that with the correct client it could be very useful. For the cost I find it an O.K. book.

not a bad read

I really love free Kindle books and have downloaded several from this author, Sax Romer. He lived from 1883 to 1959 and his books I have read so far are set in the late 19th century or early 20th. The language is a little stilted, like the Sherlock Holmes books, but the mysteries are interesting and I enjoying trying to solve them and always being wrong.

This particular story was very interesting because the item involved is a slipper reportedly worn by Muhammad. A fanatical group devoted to protecting this relic is determined to return it to its rightful location, and the hero gets caught in the middle trying to protect it for a museum. Lots of adventure and mystery.

I noticed in the tag suggestions that "erotica" is included--that has to be an error. The women are very chaste and a smile is about as flirtatious as things get.

excellent , turn of the century , old english writing by the creator of the insidious Dr. Fu Manchu... mysteries such as these have disappeared from present day writing... highly recommended... read them all !

Surprising but wonderful reunion - oh, it came in mint condition!

I read this book a long time ago, probably in elementary school. I remember being so enraptured with the narrative that when I got older, I would always remember a worn down blue book with a title I had since forgotten that had captivated me and encouraged me to read, imagine, and eventually start writing on my own spare time. Fast forward ten or so years from that time, now I have finally figured out the title! When I saw it on Amazon, I knew I had to grab my own copy. I'm looking forward to reading this and rereading this! As for the condition of the product, it came fully secured in its packaging and had no damage whatsoever - a perfectly clean and crisp new paperback.

Our 14 year old daughter had to read this book prior to starting her homeschool coop in a few weeks. We received this item along with another in less than expected time and packaged as expected....perfectly. Our child started to read this as soon as it was delivered and has not been able to put it down. It is very well written and the spacing of the chapters makes it an easy read for her. I remember as a younger person reading this one and there are always things to pick up and understand even better as an adult. It is a classic and will be passed on to our others to read as well. It should be read over and over it is that good. Hope this review is able to help with your purchase.

I purchased the Phantom Tollbooth for a friend who had never heard of it. Really? I thought every Boomer had read this fantastic tale! It was first read to me, and the rest of the class, by my third grade teacher, Mrs Vadetskey. What a incredible journey Milo takes. Milo, a board little boy who is about to have his world turned upside down when he drives his car through the Tollbooth. My favorite has always been jumping to conclusions... I'll save the rest for you to discover. Just a great book!

This one is the best

I learned to read Middle Egyptian using primarily Alan Gardiner's Middle Egyptian Grammar, Adrian deBuck's Reading Book, and this dictionary. Unfortunately, Amazon does not seem to carry deBuck, which is too bad, because deBuck is a book of hieroglyphic texts for the student, containing all the important Middle Egyptian stuff: The Story of Sinuhe, the Story of the Eloquent Peasant, etc. To show you how well Faulker and deBuck go together, I need only say that when Faulkner gave a reference for the particular definition of the word I was looking up out of deBuck, as often as not the reference turned out to be the very text I was reading - a pretty clear indication that I was on the right track!
Use Miriam Lichtheim's delightful translations to keep you on the track as far as the overall sense goes, but for the right word at the right time, Faulkner and deBuck go together like ham on rye.
deBuck is from Ares Publisher Inc. Google for Ares Publishers and you'll find them. Also, one reviewer complained that there is no reverse English-to-Egyptian index in Faulkner. True, but there's one published independently, and Amazon has that. I don't have the reference at hand but a little Amazon searching will turn it up.

An Egyptian Essential

I am a Egyptology MA student and have used this dictionary for several years. It is, honestly, the best English-language reference available for ancient Egyptian, though the multi-volume German 'Worterbuch' is considered the ultimate resource. Budge is no comparison to either, being, in general, laughably inaccurate. The only reason he's reprinted is that there are no copyrights on his work, so publishers don't have to pay extra. Faulkner, on the other hand, references the texts from which he gets his definitions, providing as complete a reference as possible. He also covers the variations of spelling and definition (which for Egyptian can be both wide and numerous).

Yes, this dictionary is handwritten, which is due to the fact that it was created _before_ there were computers that could handle a hieroglyphic type. And converting it would take a lot of time and money that academics don't have and publishers don't want to spend. (This isn't exactly an NYTimes bestseller.)

So if you're seriously interested in translating the Egyptian language, this book is a must.

Faulkner's dictionary is a useful resource

Studying Middle Egyptian, Faulkner's dictionary is a must, specially in those cases where you cannot get your hands on the Wörterbuch, which is the essential dictionary for any serious student of the Middle Egyptian language. The handwriting may be annoying and seem oldfashioned in this day and age, but after some practicing, it is not that hard to decipher Faulkner's glyphs. I've definitely seen worse.

There are references to all the words, so that you can check the ancient source and see where Faulkner found it. But you need to have at least a basic knowledge of Middle Egyptian and to know how to transliterate Middle Egyptian glyphs, otherwise this dictionary is a waste of your money.

Still, you should never, ever buy any books by Budge. Not if you want to be a serious student of the Ancient Egyptian language!
