Perfect for the need

Most people today rely on EXIF data to get their image info, if they bother of course. For those who may still shoot film, or pay more attention to your shoots, this is a handy reference to have. I do wish it was about 2/3 of it's size, otherwise I'd give it 5 stars, but other than that is a handy resource for chronicling your shot scene info, especially that which would never be recorded by EXIF.

If you're a student photographer, or if you're doing studio or controlled lighting setups, this book will be more useful to you than you may think.

About the Author
Christopher A. Bartlett is the Thomas D. Casserly, Jr., Professor Emeritus of Business Administration at Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. He received an economics degree from the University of Queensland, Australia, and both masters and doctorate degrees in business administration from Harvard University. Prior to his academic career, he was a marketing manager with Alcoa in Australia, a management consultant in McKinsey and Company's London office, and country general manager of Baxter Laboratories' subsidiary company in France.

He joined the faculty of Harvard Business School in 1979, and over the following 30 years his interests focused on strategic and organizational challenges confronting managers in multinational corporations and on the process of managing transformational change. While at HBS, he served as faculty chair of the International Senior Management Program, area head of the School's General Management Unit, faculty chairman of the Program for Global Leadership, and as chair of the Humanitarian Leadership Program.

He is the author or co-author of nine books, including Managing Across Borders: The Transnational Solution (coauthored with Sumantra Ghoshal), named by Financial Times as one of the 50 most influential business books of the century. The Individualized Corporation, his subsequent major research book with Ghoshal, was the winner of the Igor Ansoff Award for the best new work in strategic management and was named one of the Best Business Books for the Millennium by Strategy+Business magazine. Both books have been translated into over 10 foreign languages. His articles have appeared in journals such as Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, and Journal of International Business Studies. He has also researched and written over 100 case studies and teaching notes, and their sales of over 3 1/2 million copies make him the best-selling case author ever. He has been elected by his colleagues as a fellow of the Academy of Management, the Academy of International Business, the Strategic Management Society, and the World Economic Forum.

Paul W. Beamish is the Donald Triggs Canada Research Chair in International Business at the Ivey Business School, University of Western Ontario. He is the author or coauthor of numerous books, articles, contributed chapters, and teaching cases. His articles have appeared in Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS), Organization Science, and elsewhere. He has received best research awards from the Academy of Management and the Academy of International Business (AIB). In 1997 and 2003, he was recognized in the Journal of International Management as one of the top three contributors worldwide to the international strategic management literature in the previous decade. He served as Editor-in-Chief of JIBS from 1993–97. He worked for Procter & Gamble and Wilfrid Laurier University before joining Ivey's faculty in 1987.

He has supervised 25 doctoral dissertations, many involving international joint ventures and alliances. His consulting, management training, and joint venture facilitation activities have been in both the public and private sector.

At Ivey, he has taught in a variety of school programs, including the Executive MBA offered at its campus in Hong Kong. From 1999–2004, he served as Associate Dean of Research. He currently serves as Director of Ivey Publishing, the distributor of Ivey's collection of over 2,400 current cases; Ivey's Asian Management Institute (AMI); and the cross-enterprise center, Engaging Emerging Markets.

He is a Fellow of the Academy of International Business, Royal Society of Canada, and Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada.

A winning formula
By read til you drop
I was very impressed with how this book was put together. Each chapter and the subsequent case study and additional readings were right on target and clearly presented each new concept and followed it up with examples of companies who have deployed the business approach discussed. I can see why this book is in its 7th edition. The authors have placed a great amount of importance and effort in writing insightful case studies that are well researched and well written. After studying this book, the reader will have a much better understanding of how global business is conducted and how to evaluate successful management approaches. For instance, after reading the successful management approaches of global Proctor & Gamble, I have much greater confidence that the new head of the Veterans Administration will be able to reorganize and lead that organization out of the mess that the previous leadership engendered. The P&G story was impressive as are all of the case studies. Extremely informative.

Good content but hard to read

I like the content of the book, but I dislike the author's choice of words. I believe there is definitely away for grad students like me to learn about Transnational Management without having to spend extra time figuring out the meaning of words or what was being said.
By the way, I really like the case studies available in the book.

I originally rented it but worth considering a purchase to keep good references of real-world experiences.

About the Author
Dr Keith Coaley is a chartered occupational and clinical psychologist, having many years of experience as an applied psychologist, trainer and lecturer at both HE and university levels. After a first undergraduate degree, he did a second degree in psychology with the Open University before a Master’s degree at Cardiff University and another later in forensic and legal psychology at Leicester University. He was awarded his PhD for his research in stress, health and job performance at Manchester. Having extensive experience of psychological assessment in practice, he has researched and published on topics relating to the fields of psychometrics and assessment. He has experience of work in Human Resources, in consultancy and in the National Health Service and prison settings, and has worked in the UK, Ireland, the Far East and Africa.

About the Author
Uwe Muegge has more than ten years of experience in the language industry. He has worked in a wide variety of functions - both freelance and in-house - including author, translator, terminologist, project manager and trainer. He has provided translation consulting services to some of the largest corporations in the world, including DaimlerChrysler, SAP and Sun Microsystems, and is a member of the special interest group on terminology of the Localization Industry Standards Association (LISA) and the workgroup on translation quality of the German Association of Technical Communicators (tekom). In addition to publishing regularly on translation quality and technology, he has given presentations at a number of international conferences and taught translation management and technology at post-graduate institutions such as the Monterey Institute of International Studies and Internationales Hochschulinstitut Lindau. Uwe Muegge currently works for Medtronic, the world's leading medical technology company, where he manages terminology and machine translation projects.

Sets a new standard for translation contracts!

With Translation Contract, Uwe Muegge has created a reference that protects both translators and their clients, and helps them communicate more effectively about translation projects. The model contract from the American Translators' Association is woefully inadequate, leaving more questions and holes than answers. Uwe has taken the whole process to the next level. His reference is a modular toolkit that anticipates every need of both translator and client. The various sections of the book include such diverse topics as: what is to be translated, how and when it will be delivered, what parts of the completed work may be retained by the translator, machine translation, data formats, and many others. The book also includes a glossary of common terms in the translation field, and an exhaustive list of international standards pertaining to translation.

Uwe's extensive background in the fields of translation, machine translation and technical writing shine through in every section--he addresses points that many wouldn't even think to cover until it's too late and they have a dispute on their hands. However, it is not a cumbersome text--the users simply pull out the sections they need, and fill in the blanks. No translator or consumer of translation services should be without this incredibly detailed tool.

A Great Way To Explore Your Inner Worlds!

This lexicon, among other things, is a tremendous guide to the people and places we find when we travel within ourselves. So very few religious texts describe the higher heavens in very much detail. This book offers specifics about each level of Soul's existence, and a plethora of words you can chant in contemplation to see what you can see for yourself!

This was an excellent book. I've been a member of Eckankar for over 20 years, as well as follow some of the other spiritual paths that all fall under the same umbrella: Paths of Light and Sound (L&S). There are many different paths that follow L&S, so to choose which is right for you: follow the one that resonates best with your person. And yes, that can change over time, which is okay. And no, you don't need to know all the terminology to go far within this path - I'm a living, breathing example of this, and yet, it hasn't hampered my Astral (OBE) experiences in the least.

Lately, I've been enjoying a master's talks on Sant Mat - another soul travel path utilizing L&S - by watching and listening to IshwarPuriJiSantMat talks on *theyoutube. *Purposefully written this way so Amazon doesn't delete the reference. And for whichever path you choose, happy travels! Astral and Soul Travel are very real, so I hope all that's reading my review pursues this endeavor.

One more thing: Remember, these paths are not religious paths (okay, maybe they are registered that way for tax purposes), so you can continue to follow your religious path, yet still enhance your spiritual experiences with an L&S spiritual path.

I found this book to be an excellent companion to other titles I have bought from this publisher and author Harold Klemp. It is very well written and a simple to use guide. I recommend it to anyone who has read any of Harold Klemp's other works. It's a useful and practicle reference book.

About the Author
Reuben Fine was both one of the world's strongest grandmasters of chess and one of the world's leading authorities on psychoanalysis. Reuben Fine (1914-1993) was remarkable not merely for having two successful careers, but for achieving top levels and being world renowned in both fields. Fine took up chess in his youth, became a master as a teenager and at age 17 won his first of seven US Open Chess Championships. He was invited to the great masters tournament in Pasadena 1932, won by World Champion Alekhine, one of the strongest tournaments ever held in the United States. Fine's victories in a series of European tournaments in 1936 and 1937 established Fine as a top contender for the World Chess Championship. This led to his greatest result ever, his tie for first in the strongest chess tournament ever played, AVRO 1938, a double round-robin tournament to determine who would be the next challenger to World Champion Alexander Alekhine. Fine tied with Paul Keres, won more games than anybody, and finished ahead of future champion Mikhail Botvinnik, current champion Alekhine, former world champions Max Euwe and Capablanca, and Grandmasters Samuel Reshevsky and Salo Flohr. Fine won both of his games against Alekhine. Fine was born on October 11, 1914 was still only 23 at the time of his victory at AVRO 1938. There is little doubt that he could have and probably would have become the World Chess Champion, except that World War II intervened. During the war, Fine could not travel to Europe, so he concentrated on writing chess books. His books covered all aspects of the game. He wrote Modern Chess Openings, Basic Chess Endings and The Middle Game of Chess during this period. He also played in several US Opens and US Championships. He won the US Open seven times, which was every time he played.

General ideas behind some major openings

IDEAS BEHIND THE CHESS OPENINGS gives you a general idea of what most of the openings are about. Don't look at this book to find the most modern and detailed analysis of any specific opening as it is very general. Since this book was written over 40 years ago, though updated some, it will not cover modern ideas. "Understanding the Chess Openings" in my opinion does a better job of what this book is intended to do. I also can suggest to understand the ideas and tricky parts of openings you get "Winning Chess Traps" as well. Do not just memorize moves - understand the ideas!

Buyer Beware. I really did not like it

Although I realize a lot of people think highly of this book, I really did not like it or find it useful. This was one of the first three books on chess that I ever bought. (That was 20 years ago; I now have about 30). I found it to be useless then and I have picked it up a few times since then and still don't find it to be useful. For the life of me I don't see where the IDEAS are that this book is named for. I see dozens of opening lines with very little in the way of explanation about the IDEAS behind the opening(s). I found Horowitz's How to Win in the Chess Openings a lot more useful in that regard--explaining the IDEAS behind the chess openings. (Although Horowitz's book is no panacea either). If you are starting out, I'd suggest thinking twice on this one. Maybe check it out at the library and if you like it, then think about buying it.

Flawed Masterpiece...

This is truly a great book for beginners and medium-level players. It really helps in understanding the reasons behind the first or so 10-15 moves, rather than mechanically following what the grand masters play. This book should be one of the first in every chess player's library.
Why only 3 stars then ? I hear you ask. Well, this edition "supersedes" previous ones by converting the moves to the now-popular algebraic notation. Unfortunately, I counted over a dozen mistakes in the conversion. It's already hard enough to follow the hundreds of variations as it is, without inserting red herrings. The proof reading done on this edition is really quite unacceptable !
It's quite difficult to follow through the variations to their end using a normal chess board. Too many times positions need to be restored to a certain complicated position. My solution: I went through the book using a chess program on my lap top. It was then easy when required to reset the board to a given move.

This book also describes the methodology, technology and practical techniques employed in both systems, which have been commercialized recently in some Asian countries such as China and Japan. We often use a closed structure such as a tissue culture vessel, a culture room, a growth chamber, a plant factory with lamps, and a greenhouse to propagate plants and produce transplants. Main reasons why we use such a closed structure is: 1) higher controllability of the environment for desired plant growth, 2) easier protection of plants from damage by harsh physical environment, pathogens, insects, animals, etc, 3) easier reduction in resource consumption for environmental control and protection, and 4) higher quality and productivity of plants at a lower cost, compared with the plant propagation and transplant production under rain, wind and sunlight shelters and in the open fields. Thus, there should be some knowledge, discipline, methodology, technology and problems to be solved on plant propagation and transplant production common to those closed structures, regardless of the types and sizes of the closed structure.

Not truly a 2010 publication

I purchased the hardcover edition of this book for $149 from Amazon back in 2007. The hardcover edition price has apparently now risen to $163.59. The publication date of my hardcover edition was 2005. This republication in 2010 contains the exact same text as the 2005 hardcover edition, which, incidentally, was actually written in 2004 (and perhaps some of the material was drafted even before that). I was actually kind of relieved to discover that my 2005 copy hadn't now become obsolete in its content.

So why would you pay more for the paperback edition than the hardcover edition? Easy. All of the illustrations in the hardcover edition were in black and white, while many (perhaps most) of the illustrations in this new 2010 paperback edition are in full color. If I didn't already own the hardcover edition, I would buy the new 2010 paperback version just to get the color illustrations.

Micropropagation by Tissue Culture is a rather specialized field in itself, and photoautotrophic micropropagation is a rather specialized subset of that, and it is almost the exclusive domain of institutional or commercial enterprises. As an amateur interested in tissue culture micropropagation as a hobby, I discovered that very few, if any, amateurs actually use this technique, despite its potential advantages. Once you take the sugar away, you have to provide carbon dioxide and lots of light, and that can be problematic for the amateur.

Technically, this book may deserve 5 stars. But it describes a very specialized field, and its copyright date could give some people a false impression as to the currency of its content. And I think the description of a book should specify whether its illustrations are in full color or just black and white. So I deducted a star.

This book is a collection of papers about photoautotrophic micropropagation system. It's well organized with detailed description of available works and researches.

Recommended to anyone interested in starting a large scale micropropagation system.

The Girls Guide is also a Good Middle Age Guide

I'm not finished with this book but I'm loving it. I'm not even embarrassed to say I'm past the "girl age". I am 47yo and feeling like I never received the manual on "how to get along better in life". I have other books like this but they are very dry, too PhD point of view. This book is a breath of fresh air, I'm drinking it like Pellegrino on a warm Spring day. I'm just appreciating this book, the way it's written - in layman terms, with a sense of humor but also with hardcore knowledge and wisdom behind it. A real persons guide to helping navigate real daily problems.

So far so good. I'm only 30 pages in and I'm already swearing by this! Some things are obviously common sense that women in their 20's should already be aware of. A little redundant when it comes to working out but then again I'm not really a fan of working out to begin with :P I can't put this book down

So, I'm the kind of person that didn't pay attention to certain things growing up. I'm good at outdoorsy stuff but girl stuff seems so difficult. There's things that I've wondered and had no trustworthy way of answering (no thank you google) and maybe they're too embarrassing to ask... but this book was helpful.There were some things I really wanted to know about (money, buying, renting, etc) and some that were TMI in the best possible way (some 'doctor appointments' I'm too scared to schedule because I have no idea what to expect...) I would suggest this to young women 18 to mid twenties who are a little clueless. It helps.

Tremendous Insight Into Mind of Maxwell

Having read several of Maxwell's books over the years, I knew I was in for a treat before starting this read. However, what grabbed me about this book is that Maxwell and his team decided to take a couple of years and narrow down the questions most asked about leadership and then compile them categorically into a readable format. The result is a real glimpse into the mindset of John Maxwell, known as one of the top leadership gurus in the world. Add to the fact that he is a Christian and served as a pastor for many years and you have a fascinating read and insight into one of the keenest minds on this important subject of leadership.

The book is broken down into two parts: 1) Questions I Ask and 2) Questions Leaders Ask Me. Under the two parts the following questions are answered:

The three chapters that were most helpful to me were "What Must I Do to Lead Myself Successfully?", "How Do I Resolve Conflict and Lead Challenging People?", "How Can I Successfully Navigate Leadership Transitions?"

I underlined, starred, and marked up so much of this book, I don't know exactly what to include in this review. I do know that if you have any type of leadership role or have a desire to learn leadership, this is a tremendous book. As always with Maxwell's books, this volume is infused with applicable anecdotes and timely quotes.

Here are a few of my favorite parts of the book:

When I was a young leader, I didn't feel wise enough, strong enough, mature enough, competent enough, confident enough, or qualified enough. When I began to be honest with myself, allow my weaknesses to humble me, and go to God for help, I began to change. I became more open and authentic. I was willing to admit my mistakes and weaknesses. I developed appropriate humility, and I began to change and grow...Before I had been unwilling to be wrong, and as a result I had been unable to discover what was right. Isn't it strange how we must surrender being right in order to find what's right, how humility enables us to be authentic, vulnerable, trustworthy, and intimate with others? People are open to those who are open to them.

If you are a leader, your goal is to lift up your people, not have them lift you up.

If you are a leader, the true measure of your success is not getting people to work. It's not getting people to work hard. It is getting people to work hard together.

Attention all leaders and new leaders!

Omg. This is a must have for a new leader who needs direction and guidance for leading teams. This is a must have for an existing leader looking to move up and lead other leaders! In fact, to ask these types of questions and regard leadership in this way, influence and persuasion will be tools in your arsenal that john maxwell will equip you with!

I was so impressed that I took 21 pages of typed notes. I'm moving to a new team im my company that everyone else turned down because it seems like a "challenge" department. But to me and with these tools provided in this book, I'm excited. John has info on how to build credibility and trust with new teams immediately. He has insight on why teams are considered "challenge" or troubled in the first place. It's usually due to poor leadership. And with these questions there are ways and strategies to turn it around quickly.

Buy the book only if you are serious and ready to work at changing your mindset and putting forth effort in the right place to propel your team forward!

Disappointing in Comparison to Other Maxwell Titles

In comparison to other Maxwell books I have read there are some good nuggets of information, but this one is really overwhelming with way too many references to his other books and what comes across as grandstanding on how great of a supervisor Maxwell is. It was very hard to complete this book unlike my experiences with his other work. If you have enjoyed other Maxwell books, I believe you will find this one a bit disappointing.
