About the Author

Dr. Larry Turyn is a professor of mathematics and statistics at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, where he has taught for 31 years. He earned degrees from Brown University and the Columbia University Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science. He has also been a Fellow and sessional instructor at the University of Calgary. At Wright State University he has developed several courses in engineering mathematics, differential equations, and applied analysis. Dr. Turyn has authored 26 articles in the fields of differential equations, eigenvalue problems, and applied mathematics.

There has got to be a better option out there

Absolutely terrible. This book tries to cover too much. It rushes through topics with few examples and vague theorems. The practice/HW problems rarely apply to the topics covered in the section.

Not only is the content flawed, but the book itself is poorly constructed. Mine had its spine start failing within a month, this is mostly due to the size of the book and it being absurdly thick. It should be split into at least 2 volumes that cover the material better.

This text is completely correct and very rigorous. It also easy to follow. For the persons who is trying to understand engineering mathematics, I strongly recommend this text. Odd numbers solutions in the internet are also very helpful to self study.

Terrible textbook

Really dislike this textbook. Not only is it 20 lbs, it is confusing and just incomprehensible. There are no solutions in the back. For my class I googled notes from other college adv math courses to learn the material.
